DNA-Match – confirmed
A. Palombini, from PA, USA (in the following indicated as APA) has a DNA-Match with me on both
- 23andme: 92 cM, 1,23%, possible 3rd cousin. APA’s maternal haplogroup is HV0, whereby mine is H-T192C!. Because we match on my maternal side, of course we cannot compare our paternal haplogroups;
- ancestry: 90 cM across 9 segments, possible 3rd to 4th cousin.
Following table shows confirmed (through documents) relationship to our MRCA (Most Recent Common Ancestor).
% DNA | My family | APA’s family | % DNA | |
---|---|---|---|---|
~19,68% | MRCA: my 2x-great-grandparents and APA’s 3x-great-grandparents: Pietro Di Lorenzo (b. ca. 1833, d. unknown, resident in Novele) son of Andrea Di Lorenzo (b. unknown, d. before 1870) and Anna Bellini (b. ca. 1820, d. unknown, resident in Novele) daughter of Giovambattista Bellini (b. unknown, d. before 1870) |
~39,36% | ||
~9,84% | My great-grandmother: Anna Di Lorenzo a.k.a. Rosa + Sabatino Massetti |
systers | APA’s 2x-great-grandmother: Caterina Di Lorenzo a.k.a. Catherine (b. ca. 1864, d. 27 oct 1916 in Novele) + Domenico Palombini |
~19,68% |
~4,92% | My grandmother: Giovannina Massetti + Sante Cognoli |
1st cousins | APA’s great-grandfather: Sabatino Palombini (3 set 1894, Ascoli Piceno, Marche, Italia) + Enrica Velenosi (18 set 1898, Italia) |
~9,84% |
~2,46% | My mother | 2nd cousins | APA’s grandfather | ~4,92% |
1,23% | Me | 3rd cousins | APA’s father | ~2,46% |
My son and my daughters | 4th cousins | APA | 1,23% |
Thus, according to the table above, APA and I should be 4th cousins.
Location
According to the “New York, Passenger and Crew Lists (including Castle Garden and Ellis Island), 1820-1957”, at Pag. 2, although mispelled, Sabatino Palombini’s birth place is indicated as Novele, small town near Quintodecimo by Acquasanta Terme, in the province Ascoli Piceno, in the region Marche in Italy. In the same list there are other passengers from another town near Acquasanta: Quintodecimo.
This explains why Sabatino and his father Domenico do not appear in the book Acquasanta Vol. IV, as do not appear all my ancestors coming from Quintodecimo, Novele, and Paggese.
Parents of Sabatino Palombini were Domenico Palombini and Caterina Di Lorenzo, birth place of both, unknown.
Anna Di Lorenzo a.k.a. Rosa, my great-grandmother, wife of Sabatino Massetti, was also born in Novele, whereby Sabatino Massetti was born in Quintodecimo, 1,5 KM from Novele.
Pietro Di Lorenzo, father of the above mentioned Anna a.k.a. Rosa, was resident in Novele in 1870, working as farmer.
Thus, both the place Novele and the surname Di Lorenzo are in APA’s family history and in mine.
More research is then needed on the Di Lorenzo Family, where most probably our MRCA is.

DNA matches on MyHeritage
Again, on MyHeritage I do not match with anyone, who has Palombini in their tree or are looking for this surname, as far as I know..
Searching Palombini on the sites
I contacted already APA on ancestry and she answered. However, because of some other personal constraints, she could not provide many information yet, apart what is in her tree on ancestry.
That’s why, meanwhile, I use a different approach, looking for a possible confirmation of the connection through the documents I can find online.
